Community-based hypertension management program in the Philippines
The IRD is at the forefront of building novel health infrastructure. Their goal is to improve the access and quality of health services delivered to under-resourced areas in both rural and urban communities. Through the use of game-changing health market innovations, the IRD leverages process and technology innovations to address global health delivery gaps.
With the support of LINKS, the Marikina Hearts project aims to accomplish task-shifting of hypertension management from specialists to primary care physicians in the private sector through a mobile application for telemonitoring named mHearts. The project’s goals include managing hypertension for 20,000 low-income residents through a trained network of 100 private-practitioners over a period of two years, and achieving blood-pressure control among 80% of those enrolled for treatment.
“The aim of our project is to develop a sustainable community-based program for hypertension management in the private-sector in Marikina City, the Philippines.”
- Dr. Asad Zaidi, Project Advisor
