Community-based hypertension management program in the Philippines

Status: Complete

IRD is at the forefront of building novel health infrastructure. Their goal is to improve the access and quality of health services delivered to under-resourced areas in both rural and urban communities. Through the use of game-changing health market innovations, IRD leverages process and technology innovations to address global health delivery gaps.

With the support of LINKS and Innovations for Community Health, a local community partner in Manila, the Marikina Hearts project aims to accomplish task-shifting of hypertension management from specialists to primary care physicians in the private sector through a mobile application for telemonitoring named mHearts. The project’s goals include managing hypertension for 20,000 low-income residents through a trained network of 100 private-practitioners over a period of two years, and achieving blood-pressure control among 80% of those enrolled for treatment.

“The aim of our project is to develop a sustainable community-based program for hypertension management in the private-sector in Marikina City, the Philippines.”

- Dr. Asad Zaidi, Project Advisor
